The S 800 D THX Ultra 2 dipole speakers astound through their high capacity and small dimensions, which make them perfectly suitable for integration into any living space. We're not aware of any smaller dipole with THX Ultra 2 certification.The 130 mm bass driver of these three-way speakers is situated on the wall-facing side of the speaker enclosures. It renders a sound foundation which makes it possible to identify even low-frequency effect signals in the background. The speakers' mid- and high-range drivers project forward and backwards, and their 25 mm domes are reverse-polarised to deliver diffuse, ambient sound. Sound projected directly at the listener is minimised in favour of ambient sound which is reflected off of walls and creates an effect of open spatiality. This omni-directional projection contributes to captivating and believable sound quality which could never be rivalled by conventional speakers. To avoid diffraction, both sides are covered by enclosures conceived of as cowls without any screws, bushings or grommets in them. An integrated wall-mount enables the dipoles to be attached to a wall, which is necessary for their stunning effect to fully unfold. They can also be mounted against a rear wall at an angle using the optional AC 6500 SM/L wall-mount and lock.
These front loudspeakers for System 8 THX Ultra 2 are completely redeveloped and a bit of an enigma: they're both smaller and better. Even though they're 40% more compact than their predecessor, our engineers squeezed an even higher degree of sound quality out of them thanks to modern chassis technology, computer-supported Klippel optimization and extensive tuning. The S 800 FCR THX Ultra 2 front loudspeakers employ modern flat-diaphragm chassis in the bass- and mid-tone ranges. During high tones a 25 mm fabric-dome tweeter comes into play. The tweeter can be turned up to the extremely high volume required by THX Ultra 2 and nevertheless deliver very detailed sound... These three-way loudspeakers are optimized to be set up near a wall, but can also be placed freely within a space. A removable dust cover is shipped with the speakers to protect their valuable drivers. The cover can be mounted and dismounted without the use of screws because screws could negatively influence sound quality. And that's not how we do things...
We gave the THX engineers a bit of a shock with the S 8000 SW: they'd never seen another manufacturer meet their stringent THX Ultra 2 standards using a single 300 mm chassis and an enclosure this small (80 litres). Teufel pulled it off: a level of 114 dB at 40 Hz with a linearity of +- 1 dB.This subwoofer is an absolute triumph of Teufel's engineering expertise, painstakingly gathered over twenty years of building specialised deep bass woofers.The unbelievable performance of the S 8000 SW can be attributed to a bass driver developed over many steps and featuring an extremely long throw with THX Ultra 2-required magnetic screening.A very low level of harmonic distortion and extreme efficiency contribute to high levels being rendered distortion-free at 500 watts of RMS output. In the past, a significantly higher level of amplification would have been required. And there's a side effect: you'll save on your electricity bill.The Teufel-developed DPU reflex system with bass reflex openings on the back virtually eliminates interference even at high volumes. A remote control makes adjusting the subwoofer to match any sized space easy – the system can handle up to 100 square metres.
